Connect DBeaver with Infor Data Lake on Mac

You can connect DBeaver Community Edition on your Mac to Infor Data Lake through the Infor Compass JDBC Driver. You don't need to purchase DBeaver Pro or install a separate database server. The connection uses your Infor OS tenant's ION API Gateway for authentication, then lets you execute Compass SQL queries against Data Lake.

Important: It is not a direct connection to the underlying storage engine.

In this post I'm using DBeaver 26.2.1 Community Edition.

Step 1 — Download the Compass JDBC Driver

  1. Sign in to your Infor OS tenant.
  2. Open the application menu and launch OS.
  3. Navigate to Data Fabric → Downloads → Files.
  4. Find Data Lake Compass JDBC Driver and download the latest available package.
  5. Extract the downloaded ZIP file.
    1. Note: I'm using Compass JDBC Driver/ 2026.09.00
You should have a JAR file with a name similar to:
infor-compass-jdbc-<version>.jar

The exact version will depend on what your tenant makes available.
Important: If the download option is missing, ask your Infor administrator to check the tenant's entitlements and your access to the Downloads page.

Step 2 — Create the .ionapi authentication credentials

The JDBC driver uses ION API authentication rather than a normal database username and password.
  1. In Infor OS, open API Gateway.
  2. Navigate to Authorized Apps.
  3. Create a new authorized application with these settings:
    Setting Value
    Name Infor Compass JDBC Driver
    Type Backend Service
    Description Infor Compass JDBC Driver

  4. Save the application.
  5. Select Download Credentials.
  6. Enable the Create Service Account option.
  7. Enter the IFS username of the account that should access Data Lake.
  8. Download the .ionapi credentials file.
Security Note: The credentials act on behalf of the associated service account. Confirm that the account has the required Data Lake permissions and that your administrator approves this access. Treat the .ionapi file as a secret: don't commit it to Git, email it, or share it with other users.

Step 3 — Create a dedicated folder on your Mac

  1. Open Terminal and run: mkdir -p "$HOME/Library/Infor Data Lake"
  2. Copy the downloaded JDBC .jar file and .ionapi file into this folder.
  3. Your folder should look similar to this:

Step 4 — Configure the custom driver in DBeaver

Open DBeaver Community on your Mac.
  1. From the menu, select Database → Driver Manager.
  2. Click New.
  3. Enter the following settings:
    In the  Settings tab
    Driver Name Infor Data Lake
    Driver Type Generic
    Class Name com.infor.idl.jdbc.Driver
    URL Template jdbc:infordatalake://{tenantname}

    In the Libraries tab
Click on Add Folder, Select ~/Library/Infor Data Lake/ — the folder containing the files.
  4. Click Find Class if available, and confirm that DBeaver recognizes com.infor.idl.jdbc.Driver.

  5. Save the driver.

Step 5 — Create the connection to your Infor OS tenant

Now create a connection using the custom driver.
  1. In DBeaver's Database Navigator, click New Connection (the plug icon) or use Database → New Database Connection.
  2. Find and select Infor Data Lake.
  3. Click Next.
  4. In the connection settings, enter your tenant ID.
  5. Leave the standard username and password fields empty when using the .ionapi file authentication method.
  6. Click Test Connection.
  7. If the test succeeds, click Finish.

Replace YOUR_TST with the tenant identifier used by your Infor OS environment.

Step 6 — Test a Compass SQL query

Open a SQL Editor and try a simple query against a known Data Lake object. For example,
